Club Shoot 30 March 2024 PHASE DRILL

30 March @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Free

The Phase Drill you’ve described is a structured shooting exercise that emphasizes accuracy, speed, and transitioning between different target sizes. Here’s a step-by-step breakdown of the drill:

The Phase Drill:

  1. Set up the target at least three yards away. The target appears to have several numbered circles and one-inch dots.
  2. Set your timer to a par time of 2.5 seconds. The timer will signal when it’s time to draw and fire.
  3. Begin with the first circle (#1). When the timer chimes, quickly draw your handgun and fire a single shot into the largest circle (#1).
  4. Re-holster your handgun, wait for the timer to reset, and then fire another shot into the same circle (#1).
  5. Repeat this process until you have fired ten shots into the #1 circle.
  6. After completing ten shots in the #1 circle, transition to the next circle (#2). Fire ten shots into the #2 circle using the same process as before.
  7. Continue this pattern for the #3 and #4 circles, firing ten shots into each of them.
  8. Transition to the one-inch Phase dots. Draw and fire a single shot into one of the one-inch dots each time the timer chimes.
  9. If you miss a shot, repeat the phase you are on until you have completed it successfully.

The Phase Drill is designed to challenge your accuracy and speed by varying the target sizes and distances. The par time of 2.5 seconds adds an element of time pressure to the drill, encouraging you to make accurate shots efficiently.

Here are some additional tips and considerations:

  • Safety: Always prioritize firearm safety. Keep your firearm pointed in a safe direction, keep your finger off the trigger until you’re ready to fire, and follow all safety rules.
  • Training: This drill can be demanding, so ensure you have proper training and supervision when practicing.
  • Progression: Focus on improving your accuracy and speed gradually. Don’t rush; prioritize accurate shots.
  • Recording Results: Consider keeping a record of your performance in each phase to track your progress over time.
  • Ammunition: Ensure you have enough ammunition and magazines for the drill.
  • Range Rules: Follow the specific range rules and guidelines of the facility where you are practicing.

The Phase Drill is a challenging exercise that can help you enhance your marksmanship skills.

Practicing drills like these under safe and controlled conditions is essential for responsible firearm ownership and self-defense preparation.
